10 low-cost ways to get more local orders
Practical, budget-friendly ideas to bring more customers to your storefront — most of them free.
5 min readUpdated August 2026You don't need an advertising budget to grow. Steady, local visibility and happy repeat customers do most of the work. Here are ten things that consistently bring bakers more orders.
- Post in local Facebook groups and on Nextdoor. Community "what's on" and "recommendations" groups are where your neighbours already look for local food.
- Ask happy customers to spread the word. A quick "thank you — please tell your friends" note in every order does more than any advert.
- Add your shop link everywhere: your personal social media, your WhatsApp status, your email signature and any local directories.
- Turn one-off buyers into regulars with deals and bundles. A "box of 6" or a small loyalty offer gives people a reason to come back.
- Run seasonal specials. Easter, Halloween, Christmas and local events give people a reason to order now rather than "sometime".
- Slip a business card or small flyer into every order, with your QR code and a note about what's coming up next.
- Partner with nearby businesses. Cafés, farm shops, hairdressers and offices are often happy to display a card or take a regular order.
- Keep your storefront fresh. An up-to-date menu, good photos and an "open" shop status all make people more likely to order.
- Take better photos. Natural light, a plain background and a close-up of the bake beat a dark, cluttered shot every time.
- Collect reviews and reshare them. A screenshot of a lovely message (with permission) is powerful, honest marketing.
Pick two of these to focus on this month rather than trying all ten at once. Consistency beats intensity.
